Erosion Control Services Celebrates WBE/WOSB Designation

With a woman at the helm of Erosion Control Services for the last two years, ECS is thrilled that our official designation as a Women’s Business Enterprise and a Women-Owned Small Business has finally come through. As a business offering SWPPP services to contractors in both Utah and Idaho, we know that this industry has long been dominated by men and for this reason, we are especially excited to be bucking the trend as a WBE/WOSB.

What Is a WOSB?

Created in 2000, the Women-Owned Small Business designation is awarded by the federal Small Business Administration. Some local, state and federal government contracts are specifically earmarked for WOSBs, and the SBA says the federal government’s goal is to award at least 5% of all available contracts to WOSBs.

According to the SBA, to achieve the WOB designation, a small business must be 51% owned and controlled by a woman or women who are U.S. citizens. Specifically, the woman or women must manage day-to-day operations and participate in long-term business decisions.

What Is a WBE?

To become a Women’s Business Enterprise, the business must be certified by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit that opened its doors in 1997. WBENC’s mission is to help women establish and operate businesses throughout the U.S.

Getting this accreditation is a major step for any business, due to the legitimacy this designation provides. Once accepted into the organization, businesses are allowed to use the WBENC logo to identify themselves to customers, contractors and others.

ECS’s Woman President

With an associate’s degree in finance from Salt Lake Community College as well as an Applied Science degree.
